My First Fried Chicken Experience
Fried chicken breast never tasted so good, when I first did it it at home… it was my first fried chicken breast I ever had and the first time I made fried chicken breast at home, I was amazed by how satisfying it was to get that perfect crunch. I’d expected it to be tougher than it was, and I got results better than anything I’d ever ordered from a restaurant. It soon became the special occasion or crave go-to.
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
Chicken breasts: cut in half horizontally, to make 2 large and then 4 thin fillets
Buttermilk: 1 cup or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice
Hot sauce: 1 tbsp (optional extra flavour)
Salt and pepper: To taste
For the Breading:
All-purpose flour: 1 cup
Cornstarch: ½ cup (for extra crispiness)
Paprika: 1 tsp
Garlic powder: 1 tsp
Onion powder: 1 tsp
Cayenne pepper: ¼ tsp (optional)
Salt and pepper: To taste
For Frying:
Vegetable oil: For deep frying ( peanut, canola or vegetable oil is good)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
Mix buttermilk, hot sauce, if using, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
Place the chicken breasts into the pan, and make sure they get fully submerged. Keep covered and refrigerated for 1 hr or more up to overnight for best tenderness and flavor.
Step 2: Put the cold chicken in a shallow Ziploc bag. For many people the bag won’t close properly, so try to get as much of the air out each time. Mix together the flour, corn starch, cayenne (if using), pearls of onions, garlic powder and salt, and pepper, and place in a shallow bowl or dish.
Step 3: Pour about half-full of oil of your choice into a deep frying pan free of grease, and heat up the OilClean. So, the amount of oil used is where the temperature above comes out, so to cook at 350°F (175°C), the amount of oil should be about 2 to 3 inch of oil.
Step 4: Marination of chickenTake the chicken out from marinade and cleanse it with buttermilk for any leftover marinade on any remaining meat. Again dunking your meat into the flour mix, carefully grease each piece and spin them around.
Step 5: Once the oil in the frying pan is hot fry the Chicken with the chicken in small portions as otherwise it will explode oil around the frying pan. All of them should never conducted together as this can cause additional splash and also vaporize some of hot oil.
Let it cook for 4–6 minutes on each side until you see the outside of that brown and the meat inside 165°F (74°C). After removing, let drain on a wire rack, or paper towels.
Step 6: Serve
Enjoy hot with side options such as mashed potatoes or coleslaw or biscuits.
Perfect Fried Chicken Tips
Marinate for Tenderness: Marinade of buttermilk tenderizes the chicken and improves flavor.
Double-Dip for Extra Crunch: This makes the chicken twice coated and a thicker, crispier crust.
Monitor Oil Temperature: Doing this prevents overcooking greasiness, it also keeps the oil at 350°F so dishes cook evenly.
