Grilled salmon is good and juicy and can be transformed into one with a good marinade. Since salmon offers its own deep natural flavor, this recipe balances that with a hint of savory, sweetness, and tang. It doesn’t matter if you are grilling outdoors or in an indoor grill, this marinade will make your salmon, amazing.
Ingredients
For the Marinade:
Soy sauce: ¼ cup
Olive oil: 2 tbsp
Honey or brown sugar: 2 tbsp
Lemon juice: 2 tbsp (about half a lemon)
Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
Ginger: Fresh, grated (optional for extra zing) 1 tsp.
Dijon mustard: 1 tsp
Black pepper: ½ tsp
Red pepper flakes: ¼ tsp (optional, if you want it slightly hot)
For the Salmon:
Salmon fillets: 4 (about 6 oz each)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Marinade
Whisk together in small bowl soy sauce, olive oil, honey (or brown sugar), lemon juice, garlic, ginger, Dijon mustard, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Step 2: Marinate the Salmon
Put the salmon fillets into a resealable plastic bag or a shallow plate.
Marinate the salmon with the marinade and pour over the salmon ensuring all fillets have been well coated.
Alternatively, place the bag or dish into the refrigerator, and seal it, for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Marinate for no more than 15 minutes, as the acid will spoil the texture of the fish.
Step 3: Preheat the Grill
Put your grill on medium high heat (about 400 °F). Grates are oiled lightly so they don’t stick.
Step 4: Grill the Salmon
Pull the salmon from the marinade and pat it a bit on a paper towel to dry it. Discard the marinade.
Season the salmon fillets skin side down with salt and pepper, and place on the grill.
Thick fillets will take 4–6 minutes and 3–5 minutes on the other side, depending on the thickness. Otherwise, the thinner the fillet, the faster the cooking will be. The salmon is ready, when it flakes easily with a fork, and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
Step 5: Serve
Set the salmon aside and rest for 2 minutes. Enjoy with your favorite sides, some grilled vegetables, rice or a fresh salad.
Tips for Grilling Salmon
Skin-On Fillets: The skin on keeps the salmon together during grilling and adds some flavor.
Prevent Sticking: Before grilling, oil the grill grates and the salmon lightly.
Don’t Overcook: Salmon cooks quickly and it easily dries out.
Foil Option: Use a foil packet to grill delicate fillets, with no worry of sticking or breaking as you tend to when grilling fish.
