Best Thanksgiving Dressing Recipe (or stuffing, as you call it) unifies the holiday meal and is something we need to be pointing fingers at. Hearty bread, savory herbs, aromatic vegetables come together in a classic, flavorful dressing so anyone will love it.

My Thanksgiving Dressing Story

As this was the very first time I attempted to make my own Thanksgiving stuffing, the warm, herby smell in the kitchen created a clean slate that I needed for the day. Now its a must have dish and my family look forward to it each year.

Ingredients

For the Dressing:

Bread cubes: A heaping 12 cups (day old white, sourdough or cornbread cut into 1 inch pieces)

Unsalted butter: ½ cup (1 stick)

Onion: 1 large, finely chopped

Celery: 3–4 stalks, finely chopped

Garlic: 3 cloves, minced

Chicken or turkey broth: 2 ½ cups (adjust as needed)

Eggs: 2 large, beaten

Fresh parsley: 2 tbsp, chopped

Fresh sage: 1 tsp of dried.

Fresh thyme: 1 tsp (or ½ tsp dried)

Fresh rosemary: 1 tsp, chopped (or ½ tsp dried)

Salt and pepper: To taste

Optional Add-Ins:

Cooked sausage: ½ lb, crumbled

Dried cranberries: ½ cup

Chopped pecans or walnuts: ½ cup

Mushrooms: 1 cup, sautéed

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Bread

Bonny cubes can be put on one layer then placed into the oven on 250 degrees centigrade for a few minutes to moisten.

When brown bread is at room temperature, spread them out on a plate for about 30-35 minutes and let them dry out equally and start to brown a bit. Afterwards, allow it to rest.

Step 2: Sauté the Vegetables

Cook at a medium temperature in a big frying pan, until the butter has melted.

To this mix you can then add celery and onions and allow the two to simmer for five to seven minutes until the two are soft.

They then add garlic to the mixture. Once you take it off the stove after one minute.

Step 3: Mix the Dressing

Put vegetables, thyme, wheat bread cubes, parsley in one big bowl and combine.

The other part of broth and eggs, half warm the bread mixture, dredge the whole through the rest.

And as always, add salt and pepper. And if you want to, put in optional items.

Step 4: Assemble and Bake

Spread half the ready baked loaf with sauce and sprinkle with the cheese. Rub a buttered baking pan.

Divide the mixture and spread through the greased baking dish, wrapping in foil.

Cook the dough in the oven for about 1 hour at 180 degrees and last 15 minutes at 190 degrees.

Perfection Tips to Perfect Thanksgiving Dressing

Dry the Bread: The flavors get absorbed without the bread being made too mushy.

Customize the Herbs: But use fresh herbs for the best flavor, and dried herbs will work if you don’t have fresh.

Adjust the Moisture: If the mixture seems dry add more broth to it, but make sure it is moist, not soggy.

Make Ahead: I tell people to assemble the dressing a day early, and then bake just before you’re ready to serve.
