My Slow Cooker Mashed Potato Experience
Throughout Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving and Christmas, that was the first time I ever used a slow cooker for mashed potatoes. There was a bunch of cookery on the stove I wanted without a hand at it. These slow cooked mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful and I’ve never hunted them again!
Ingredients
Potatoes: (Yukon Gold or Russet, peeled and diced) 3 lbs
Garlic: Minced 2–3 cloves (optional; for more flavor)
Chicken or vegetable broth: 1 cup
Butter: ½ cup (1 stick), divided
Cream cheese: For added creaminess, 4 oz (optional)
Milk or heavy cream: Adust to desired consistency ½ cup
Salt and pepper: To taste
Fresh parsley or chives: For garnish
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Potatoes
Bring the potatoes up to 1- to 2-inch chunks, enough to cook evenly.
Step 2: Add to the Slow Cooker
Put the potatoes in the slow cooker.
If you’re using minced garlic add it to your blend and add the broth.
Season with salt and pepper, dot with 4 tablespoons of butter.
Step 3: Cook the Potatoes
Put the cover on high or low, and cook for 3–4 hours on high or 6–7 hours low, until the potatoes only need to be pierced with a fork.
Step 4: Mash the Potatoes
With this setting the same speedy squeezing of the potatoes with hands or a potato masher or hand mixer can be used in the slow cooker.
After, you use the left over butter, cream cheese (if needed), and milk and heavy cream in the mix. Season herbs will be good enough if you add a little salt and pepper.
Step 5: Keep Warm
Return the slow cooker onto the intact ‘keep warm’ setting when the potatoes are cooked properly just before serving. If they get too thick add a bit of milk and stir every now and then.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Mash the potatoes, bring out the slow cooker my serve in a plating bowl. Or take them out of the warm place and drench with some fresh parsley or chive to garnish.
The perfect slow cooker mashed potatoes tips.
Use the Right Potatoes: Yukon Gold potatoes have creamy texture and Russets have fluffier texture.
Don’t Overmix: If you over mix the potatoes it will make them gummy. Best texture out if it was held gently.
Add Flavor: Salt, garlic or sour cream or Parmesan cheese can improve the taste.
Plan Ahead: If using a slow cooker, these can stay warm for up to 2 hours making them perfect for when time is short but you don’t want a runny egg.
