White sauce pizza is a delectable take on the classic pie — white sauce instead of tomato sauce. You can top it with gooey cheese and all the good stuff to make it feel fancy while it’s indulgent.
My First White Sauce Pizza Experience
White sauce pizza was a revelation, the first time I tried it. The base was creamy enough to allow toppings to standout in a way that tomato sauce cannot. The result was better than anything I’d had at a restaurant and they made it at home, so I felt like it was a creative adventure. It was a fast favorite!
Ingredients
For the White Sauce:
Butter: 2 tbsp
Flour: 2 tbsp
Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
Milk: 1 cup
Parmesan cheese: ½ cup, grated
Salt and pepper: To taste
Nutmeg: Optional pinch – extra depth
For the Pizza:
Pizza dough: use 1 store bought or homemade ball
Mozzarella cheese: 1½ cups, shredded
Parmesan cheese: ¼ cup, grated
Toppings:
Sliced mushrooms
Spinach
Cooked chicken
Bacon bits
Caramelized onions
Basil (optional for garnish, fresh)
Step 1: Making the White Sauce
So take a saucepan and put some butter in it and put it on a medium flame. Once it’s heated, add some chopped garlic into the pan and cook until it is fragrant, about one or two minutes.
After this, roux is then whisked in to the flour and then cooked until it reaches a consistency where it begins to look like roux, about one to two minutes of stirring.
Whisk the milk in gradually, until no lumps are formed, then add it then. Stir again and then leave to cook (until the thick end stage) for around three (and up to five) minutes.
Take off the heat and add parmesan cheese. If using: salt, pepper and nutmeg. Let cool for a while.
Step 2: How to Prepare the Oven
The oven has to be lined with parchment and preheated to Four hundred seventy five Fahrenheit (245 Celsius), before it can be used to prepare the oven. They can also be used for heating a pizza stone in the oven.
Step 3: The Shaping of the Dough process
Keep the still unbaked pizza crust pars three inch in thickness. The pizza crust can be extended to the shape or thickness you want. See if you can have the rolled dough put on a pizza peel or a sheet of parchment paper.
Step 4: How to Assemble the Pizza
White sauce is spread evenly on pizza dough except space for crust.
Shred some mozzarella cheese to layer on the sauce and then layer some Parmesan cheese on top of that.
Then, You can now put any toppings that you want on but don’t put too many else the pizza will have zero taste.
Step 5: How to Bake
Put it on the hot oven or hot pizza stone. After my 10 to 12 minutes, the crust gets brown and cheese melts.
Step 6: How to Garnish and Serve
After doing the above procedure take the pizza out of the oven and let it sit for one or two minutes. Chop the basil, cut the pizza and serve it immediately.
Tips for white sauce pizza
Keep the Sauce Light: The thin layer of white sauce stops the pizza getting too heavy.
Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh toppings like spinach and mushrooms add flavor and texture, which is why the pizza is very healthy.
Pre-Cook Watery Toppings: For sauté mushrooms or spinach, sauté them before and don’t add excess moisture.
Crispy Crust: If you want the crust a little crispier use a preheated pizza stone.
