What is Shrimp Alfredo Pasta?
Shrimp Alfredo pasta is rich, creamy Alfredo sauce (made with butter, cream and Parmesan cheese) with juicy shrimp. A simple and indulgent classic Italian American dish, it’s tossed with pasta.
Shrimp Alfredo Pasta Recipe
Ingredients (Serves 4):
For the Pasta:
A far more acceptable portion would be 12 oz fettuccine (or your favorite pasta).
Salt for boiling water
For the Shrimp:
1 lb peeled and deveined large shrimp
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
paprika, 1/2 teaspoon (optional for color, flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Alfredo Sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
freshly grated Parmesan cheese 1 cup
Optional 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish with 2 tablespoons chopped parsley if desired
Guidelines:
Cook the Pasta:
Start by pouring water that has been salted into a large pot and place on a fire. When the water boils, add the pasta and let it cook till al dente as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. After the pasta has been boiled, scoop out half a cup of the water and then drain the pasta. Place the pasta aside.
Prepare the Shrimp:
Toss the shrimp with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
Place a large skillet on medium-high heat. Once it is hot, add the shrimp and let them cook for two to three minutes on each side or until they have turned pink in color. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set them aside.
Make the Alfredo Sauce:
Reusing the same skillet, place it on fire and pour butter into it. Let the butter melt on its own and then heat a clove of garlic, chopped, for 30 seconds to allow its fragrance to come out.
Now slowly let out the thick cream, all while continuously stirring. Lower the temperature, allowing the temperature to simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
Using a whisk, add the parmesan cheese in gradually ensuring that all lumps are blended with the thick sauce. Use salt, pepper, and nutmeg to season the dish.
Combine Pasta, Shrimp, and Sauce:
Using the cooked pasta as the final ingredient, pour it into the mixture, ensuring that it floods the noodles with the sauce. If the sauce appears too chunky, try adding one of the retained pasta waters.
Add the already cooked prawns to the mixture and now fold the mixture well.
Serve:
Transfer the pasta to a plate and decorate it with parsley and more Parmesan cheese if necessary. Serve warm.
Tips for Perfect Shrimp Alfredo Pasta
Use Fresh Ingredients: The quality of the dish can significantly be improved by using fresh parmesan and fresh shrimp in the making of the dish.
Don’t Overcook the Shrimp: Overcooked shrimp gets a rubbery texture, so only cook them up to pink stage.
Change the Thickness Of The Sauce: To thin the sauce use pasta water, it helps to achieve a creamy texture without making the sauce too thick.
Serve Immediately: Al dente might be enjoyable the first time, but alfredo will turn chunky when it cools. Serve it hot and just out of the pan.
Variations to Try
Chicken Alfredo:
Instead of shrimp, use strips of grilled chicken.
Vegetarian Alfredo:
Instead of shrimps, insert mushrooms, spinach or roasted veggies.
Spicy Alfredo:
To give a kick to alfredo season the dish with red pepper flakes or cayenne powder.
