No meal is as celebrated as the juicy burger with crispy fries. Homemade burgers and fries offer restaurant quality flavor in your kitchen, whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue, meal for the family, or a weekend indulgence.
The First Experience With My First Burgers and Fries
The first time I ever made burgers and fries from scratch… I won’t forget that. There was no joy like the joy of making the perfect patty, watching it sizzle on the grill, then slathering it with grilled cheese, or pairing it with golden, crispy fries. The whole thing seemed to be an event, and the product was well, much better than takeout.
Ingredients
For the Burgers:
Ground beef: 80/20 fat ratio for juiciness : 1 lb
Salt: 1 tsp
Black pepper: ½ tsp
Garlic powder: ½ tsp
Onion powder: ½ tsp
Burger buns: 4, toasted
Cheese: You are able to make it with 4 slices (cheddar, American, or your favorite)
Toppings: Pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onion
For the Fries:
Russet potatoes: 3 large
Vegetable oil: For frying
Salt: To taste
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Fries
Cut the Potatoes: If you would like you may peel (optional) and cut the potatoes into ¼ inch thick sticks.
Soak: Remove excess starch and make them crisper by plating the potato sticks in cold water for 30 minutes or more.
Dry: Pat the potatoes completely dry with a kitchen towel and then drain them.
Step 2: Make the Burger Patties
Season the Beef: Mixing the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic power and onion powder in a bowl, and mixing gently. Don’t overwork the meat.
Form Patties: Shape the mixture into 4 equal portions & patty them slightly more than the sizes of buns will shrink during the cooking.
Step 3: Cook the Fries
In a deep fryer or a very large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
Then fry the potatoes, around 3–4 minutes at a time, just until they’re softened, but not browned. Drain on paper towels, remove.
Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C), fry the potatoes 2–3 minutes each until golden and crispy and return to oil and increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C). Season with salt right away and drain.
Step 4: Cook the Burgers
Grill or Pan-Fry: Heat a grill or a skillet over medium high heat. Pat the patties down very well with your hand and cook 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness.
Add Cheese: Cover each patty during last minute of cooking, crushing up the center a bit, and putting a slice of cheese somewhere in the middle to melt.
Step 5: Assemble the Burgers
Toast buns, then spread condiments onto the bottom half of the toasted buns.
On top of lettuce, tomato and onion slices.
Be sure to add the cheesy burger patty, plus pickles and the top bun.
Step 6: Serve
Serve up with a side of hot, crisp fries. You top the fries with ketchup or whatever ya dip with!
How To Perfect burgers and fries recipe
Don’t Overmix the Beef: If meat is worked too much the patties become tough. Handle them gently.
Double-Fry the Fries: It also guarantees the inside of the fries are soft and the outside is crispy.
Toast the Buns: The buns don’t get soggy and a bite of toasted bun is a nice crunch.
Customize Your Toppings: Experiment using bacon, avocado, sautéed mushrooms or caramelised onions, for a gourmet touch.
